Organised by Josef, Sasha, and Hannah, KTC supports a wide range of local activities and helped to launch River of Hope in October 2024, covering the theme 'How can we winter well?'. We received a full report of their initial Open Meeting on 11th September 2024. Their updated October Newsletter included an invitation to a Camden Food Growing Celebration on Tue 5th November from 2pm to 6:30pm at Clarence Hall, Hawley Rd, Camden NW1 8RN. and a follow-up Open Community Meeting on Thursday 14th November from 9.45am to 11.30am at Acland Burghley School.
Lauderdale House is at the top of Waterlow Park, hosts a drop-in cafe and runs regular events including art shows, concerts, performances and recitals - classical, jazz, folk, opera, contemporary - as well as music lessons, workshops and classes for both adults and children. These include concerts on Thursday evenings, and Tuesday & Thursday lunchtimes: www.lauderdalehouse.org.uk/whats-on/music.
Featuring informed discussion on the environment, meditation and poetry sharing, these are organised by Transition Kentish Town (TKT), usually meeting at the entrance to Hampstead Heath by Bistro Laz: N6 6JS. Recent ones were held on Saturday 29th June, Friday 20th September, and Sunday 17th November 2024.
This is a sub-group of TKT, focusing on Retrofit in the Kentish Town area, recognising the urgent need to reduce Greenhouse Gas emissions to help slow climate breakdown and reduce fuel bills. It aims to encourage, educate and enable people to start retrofit projects on their homes and businesses, and to this end they are holding regular workshops to share information about installing insulation and low carbon heating technologies to reduce energy use. They also aim to offer individual support and guidance.
A lively offshoot from TKT, Camden Think & Do has the vision to grow a community ecosystem that is resilient, and responsive to climate, environmental and social injustice by co-designing and implementing creative solutions to needs identified at a local level, with partners ranging from residents and local councils to schools, businesses, and the whole community. For details of their activities, including a monthly Sharing Space at the British Library, see Think&Do Camden. See also the separate Camden Forest website.
Transition Towns are an international movement, sponsoring local voluntary action, both campaigning and practical, in support of the environment and climate emergency. Their September newsletter included details of the York Rise Street Party on Sunday 8th September, which was opened by Ed Milliband. The October Newsletter features: Autumn bulb planting around Kentish Town, the Saving Energy Keeping Warm weekly Retrofit Workshops (see above) at Kentish Town Library, and the next Nature Connections Autumn Ramble on Sunday 17th November from 11.30am to 1pm. For details see Transition Kentish Town October News.
This is a network connecting up a wide range of voluntary sector organisations in Camden. They offer training sessions and funding advice. They also advertise Forthcoming Events, and link to newsletters of many groups. The October 11th VAC Newsletter includes a link to a major report on State of the Voluntary and Community Sector in Camden, which is of interest, even though our own organisation, and those above, are not mentioned. VAC's latest weekly Bulletin is on their Archive of VAC eBulletins - Newsletters are also listed HERE.
